The Media and Communications programmes are best suited to participants with a strong Intermediate level of English on entry (equivalent to IELTS 6.0 for the certificate; IELTS 5.5 for the higher certificate, diploma and foundation), who are seeking a professional skills programme specialising in English, media and communications. The courses are aimed at young professionals and students who are seeking a career or further study in media-related fields and require proficiency in English. Depending on the options selected by students, these courses lead to BBSI and NCFE awards, and the City and Guilds (Vocational Key Skills Certificate).
Higher-Certificate
A 24-week (2-term) higher certificate course (CMC 24) comprises 26 lessons weekly. Depending upon their language entry level and previous knowledge, students can follow one of 2 options:
Option 1 comprises Term 1 and 2 of the diploma course, ie English, communictions and business skills and media and communications. The language entry level is IELTS 5.5.
Option 2 comprises Terms 2 and 3 of the diploma course, English language, and media and communications. The language entry level is IELTS 6.0.
Option 1 includes BBSI and NCFE awards, and the City & Guilds Vocational Key Skills Certificate. Option 2 leads to additional NCFE certification. Course Content

Course Objectives
-to develop confidence and fluency in the language beyond intermediate level
-to develop effective general and business communication skills
-to build appropriate vocabulary for a career in Media
-to develop a practical, professional understanding of the use of media in the world of arts, entertainment, IT and business
-to develop an understanding of current theory & practice within the business sector
-to prepare students for university degree courses related to law and legal studies fields
-to prepare students for the IELTS examination
-to prepare students for the optional ECDL qualification
Learning Outcomes
Students with good attendance and who complete all assignments can expect to achieve a minimum language level of IELTS 6.5/7.0. They will also be able to function effectively in English in a professional legal and business environment, and will have acquired a sound knowledge and understanding of many applications of media at a professional level.
